The fort dates from 1872 and held garrisons in Victorian times, through the beginning of the First World War and saw action again during the Second World War defending Britain from threat of invasion. The fort is famous for its "whistling gunner" heard in the underground network of tunnels underneath the ground floor. Staff to this day dread to go to certain areas of the fort alone... Voted one of the spookiest locations in the UK, hear the ghost stories from this site with us and attempt to create your own!
